Hmmm.... "Green Caps for a Greener World"?? While I realize this was a sweepstakes, the slogan to help the environment at the same time I screw off a plastic cap doesn't sit well with me. Then I thought about a comment on the Plastic Crap Wall of Shame on FB and I decided that Silk isn't going to know how I feel about this unless I tell them...
Here's what I said:
"Hi!
I recently purchased "Silk Chocolate" and noticed the green cap with the slogan "Green Caps for a Greener World". This statement got me thinking about a "greener world" AND I think that in a greener world plastic caps wouldn't exist.
Did you know that caps and lids are #4 on the International Coastal Clean ups top 10 marine debris items? And that marine animals too often mistakenly ingest caps and lids? Some (like the albatross) even mistakenly feed them to their young chicks.
I remember the days (no, I'm not that old ;) ) when the paper cartons for milks didn't have spouts and plastic caps... and we all got along fine without them. I'm wondering if there is a reason beyond "convenience" to have the spout with the plastic cap? And is there any reason that makes plastic caps worth it??
Thank you for your time on this important issue of environmental responsibility. Let's team up for the planet."
So really... let's team up for the planet. Pick up a pen or pencil... sit down at your computer and contact Silk or any other milk or juice company and let them know what you think about plastic caps. Let your voice be heard.
"One voice can change a room, and if one voice can change a room, then it can change a city, and if it can change a city, it can change a state, and if it change a state, it can change a nation, and if it can change a nation, it can change the world. Your voice can change the world."
Great quote Danielle! And you know how I feel about caps. I'll get writing and thanks for yet another great post!
ReplyDeleteThat is so true... those fold open and shut milk cartons can't be that bad... seriously... why do we have to have plastic caps on everything?
